Blogging is not just about online conversations

Contrary to what most people new to blogging think, blogging is not just about online conversations. It’s about traditional communications as well.
We are humans and humans love to socialize, whether it is in person, online or over the telephone. When creating a successful blog it is important to tap into all of these channels and network with other bloggers.
The more you network with other bloggers the more successful your blog will become. Other bloggers can provide you links, trackbacks, references and possible exposure to more subscribers.
There are many ways of networking with other bloggers, but the one that gets over looked the most is the face to face communication.
If you meet another blogger in person, ask them if you can get a picture taken with them and blog about the experience. This creates a good bond between you and the other blogger. It is also a great opportunity to share links and possibly get some exposure to each other’s readers. I have included an example below.
A while back I attended a hockey game with a few friends in Buffalo NY. We ended up sitting next to a woman who seemed to be at the game by herself. Our first reaction was, “wow she must really love hockey to come to a game alone,” and boy were we right. After sparking up a conversation with her it turned out that she was there just to blog about her experience at the hockey game. In fact this is what she did. She travels around and blogs about hockey.
Her blog is titled, Psycho hockey lady and she has an extreme passion for hockey. Psycho Hockey Lady and I chatted for a bit about our blogs. We exchanged blog addresses and then began to chat about linking to each other. I read her blog and enjoyed hearing about her hockey travels. She has since put a link to my blog on her site and I have written this story about her. This is true blog face to face networking at its finest.
The message that you should take away from this post is that a successful blog requires networking on all channels, not just the internet. Make sure that you don’t’ forget about the traditional means of communication along the way of making your blog successful.
Happy blogging.
