Twitter, the delicious topping for your blog
Today micro-blogging through twitter is what all the rave is about. It is leapfrogging traditional blogging, and leaving search engine giant Google shaking in their boots. Why are some experts saying that traditional blogging is becoming a favorite past time?
First off, twitter is easier and quicker to distribute content. This makes it much less work than publishing a full blown blog post. Are we getting lazy or what? Even though twitter is easier, faster and can streamline the process of hitting millions of people, it will never replace a full blown blog. Instead it should be thought of as a delicious topping on your blog.
Twitter is a great tool, but because you can only tweet 140 characters, it is difficult to go into any depth on any topic. However, by creating a link back to a traditional blog, it becomes an extremely useful tool. Many businesses including media and news outlets will benefit from this, creating headliner tweets that pull readers into their traditional blog post. Imagine a future world of tweets.
"twitter is like the added sprinkles to an already delicious chocolate twist ice cream cone. Simply a topping for your blog."
Media and news outlets will be using this tool to provide us with up to the minute news and on-scene coverage. We as consumers we will utilize "live instant search" to find the information that we are looking for. The content will constantly be updated. This search technology that twitter holds is what is making Google so nervous.
Twitter provides live up to the second content. If you do a search on something, chances are you will find someone tweeting about it. You can even ask a questions and someone will answer. Even though the twitter content is a little adolescent at the present time, it is hard to ignore the possibilities of this live instant search technology in the future.
A recent study showed that in 2008 the twitter following was mostly of the under 21 generation, tweeting about taking naps and eating cereal. However, 2009 reports are showing more business use and a huge increase in the older generation taking part in the tweeting experience.
The future of twitter is uncertain at this point, but one thing is clear. It is a force to be reckoned with. But with only 140 characters to write about a topic, the use of traditional blogs is not going anywhere.
Happy blogging
