The Secret – Search Engine Optimization

Do you want to know what the secret to good SEO is?

secreetSearch Engine Optimization (SEO) is often viewed as a secret spice type of technology with SEO firms hiding their techniques from companies wishing to engage with them. However, most of these secret techniques are nothing more than snake oil. Easy steps to making your website rank for unqualified traffic. Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to discredit legitimate SEO’s out there. But a true quality SEO knows that to bring in quality traffic it requires more than just a few tricks pulled out of a hat.

So what is the SECRET?

The secret is much simpler than most people think. It consists of good brand, and quality content on your website or blog.

If you have both of these, you can generate more qualified traffic to your website than any straight up SEO campaign would ever bring. Unfortunately most companies do not have either of these. And if they do, they do not know how to bring them together into a meaningful and profitable package.

First off, companies need to realize that SEO or any other Internet marketing is not a short term solution. It takes times, and if you are going to build a brand on the web it could take a few years.
Companies will often say, well let’s give it a shot for 3 months and see what happens. I have never heard of any marketing efforts taking only 3 months, so why would internet marketing be any different?

Secondly, most companies think that if they are ranking high on Google for their products and services that they are all set. Unfortunately, just ranking doesn’t mean anything.

You could have the best rankings in the world, but it means nothing if you are not getting any sales out of it.

Lastly, the more people that talk about you, the more people will buy from you. So how do you get people to talk about you? Be remarkable as Seth Godin would say. Provide useful information that no one else is, educate others on processes related to your industry, do reviews of products or services, create a tenant forum, or give away trade secrets.

All of this implemented with good white hat SEO techniques will yield the most positive results. So make sure you are thinking about quality content, and your company brand while engaging in SEO.
